Medical professionals urged Filipinos to get their second COVID-19 booster shot following reports of an increase in coronavirus cases in the country these days.
"Proteksyon po natin ‘yan kasi alam natin na after ilang buwan, ay bumababa ang fighter ng ating bakuna at kailangan mabigyan ng booster shot. ‘Yung booster shot ay para tumaas ulit ang level ng ating immunity against the disease," said Dr. Benito Atienza, Philippine Federation of Professional Association Vice President, in a public briefing on Tuesday.
He also advised the public, especially children, to always wear their face masks, especially in indoor areas.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier released the guidelines for the second COVID-19 booster shot to the general population, excluding children ages 5 to 17.
In its guidelines shared on its Facebook, the Health Ministry said all healthy adults aged 18 and above can receive their second COVID-19 booster shot more than six months after getting their first booster dose.
Vaccine brands Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca will be used for the second booster inoculation.
Twenty-six areas have been placed under Alert Level 2 from April 15 to 30, 2023, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) on Sunday.
Under Alert Level 2, certain establishments and activities are allowed at 50% capacity indoors for fully vaccinated adults (and minors, even if unvaccinated), and 70% capacity outdoors.
