Aiming to entice the unemployed registered nurses to work in state health facilities, the Department of Health (DOH) plans to closely coordinate with other government agencies to look for these jobless, unregistered medical practitioners.
The agency agreed with Camarines Sur Representative LRay Villafuerte that measures should be taken to identify nurses who are not working in the health sector.
In a statement, the DOH said that it will work with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to check on the numbers of board passers and will lead them to work with the Department of Labor and Employment to trace nurses who are not engaged and employed in the health sector.
The DOH also intends to identify unfilled posts in government health facilities and map them in relation to nursing board passes.
It stated that the identified nurse vacancies must be mapped out in all regions, and this would provide them with the added benefit of being geographically closer to their homes.
The agency also promised to push the holding of employment fairs, not just at the Central Office in Manila but at all Centers for Health Development, to ensure that individuals eligible to apply can do so.
According to Villafuerte, there are around 124,000 licensed and registered Filipino nurses who are unemployed, underemployed, or undertaking non-related jobs.
