by Mary Adelene Antolin11 March 2022

The Department of Health (DOH) is studying the chance of the pediatric age group 12-17 years old to receive their booster shots against COVID-19 six to nine months after their primary series.

In a press briefing, Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje clarified that there are no recommendations of giving booster shots to ages 17 and below because the experts are studying this matter.

However, Cabotaje said they will see if the protection of the vaccine in the said age group will subside in the next six to nine months.

According to the Undersecretary, there is still no possibility that the said age group will be given booster shots that will be also based on studies.

Dr. Nina Gloriani, a member of the vaccine expert panel, explained that there have been studies on the giving of booster shots to ages 12 to 17 but only for the immune comprise.

The Philippines will have to wait for the studies from other countries on how long the protection of the vaccine will last in the said age group.
