DOH logs 1,569 Omicron cases

The Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 1,569 Omicron variant cases on Monday, raising the country's confirmed total to 2,722.

According to the DOH, 1,458 of the Omicron infections are local cases, 76 are from Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs), while the addresses of the remaining 35 cases are still being verified.

The department added that 72 Omicron cases are still active, four have died, while 1,403 have recovered. The DOH said the status of 90 Omicron cases are still being verified.

In terms of vaccination, 499 Omicron cases are from fully vaccinated individuals, 11 are partially unvaccinated, while 15 are unvaccinated. The DOH is still verifying the vaccination status of 2,197 cases, it said.

Meanwhile, the department reported 16 more Delta variant cases, all of them local cases. This brings the confirmed tally of the Delta variant to 8,663.

Among the Delta total, 628 are fully vaccinated, 230 are partially vaccinated, and 536 are unvaccinated. The department is still verifying the vaccination status of the 7,269 cases with the reports from the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units.

The latest additions to the country's Omicron and Delta cases came from the genome sequencing run carried out by the DOH, Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC), and the University of the Philippines - National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) on January 30.

The DOH, UP-PGC, and UP-NIH also said that the UP-PGC Visayas can now regularly sequence samples after it concluded its successful initial sequencing on February 6.

"This sequencing facility will mainly accommodate samples from the Visayas regions," the DOH said in a media release.

The country on Monday reported 6,835 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country's nationwide total to 3,616,387.
