The Department of Health (DOH) conducted an onsite inspection and evaluation in Oriental Mindoro after the reported oil spillage due to the sunken MT Princess Empress carrying 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil.
Led by Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Dr. Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire, the agency also provided immediate medical assistance, medicines, emergency inhalation for the affected community, and protective equipment for the rescuers.
Vergeire urged other related agencies and local governments to respond to the oil spill problem to protect the environment and public health.
Towns in Oriental Mindoro were placed under a state of calamity as the oil spill continues to spread.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is already planning to seek the help of the Japanese government to contain the spillage.
