The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, Jan. 3, recorded a total of 557 fireworks-related cases, with the youngest case being a 10-month old baby boy from Metro Manila,
DOH reported that the baby’s right eye was injured from using legal Kwitis as the family’s residence.
The oldest recorded was a 77-year-old man from the Ilocos Region who got burnt from a legal Whistle Bomb.
According to DOH, its Firework Related Injury (FWRI) surveillance is still receiving injury reports.
“Let us think twice before we light a firework for the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. As FWRI surveillance for this holiday season draws to a close, we are still receiving reports, data the DOH will use to strongly push for measures meant for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025,” its statement read.
Among the 557 reported overall injury cases, the majority were from fireworks, one because of Watusi ingestion, and one from stray bullet injury.
