The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, Jan. 4, denied the circulating messages claiming that a new COVID-19 wave was happening in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to DOH, the claim was attributed to Dr. Ruth Divinagracia from St. Luke Medical Center.

The health agency said there was “no credible evidence” nor any official statements from health authorities that support the claim of a surge in cases at the said hospital.

“The DOH urges the public to rely on information from reputable sources such as the agency and other official health organizations. Misinformation can contribute to unnecessary panic and fear,” its statement read, further stating that criminal charges could be filed if the posts would continue to spread.

“The DOH continues to enjoin the public to source information only from legitimate sources and platforms such as the health department, which can be accessed through the links and social media handles below,” it added.
