The Department of Health (DOH) clarified that monkeypox exhibits only mild symptoms and is rarely fatal.
In the statement, the DOH said there are two groups or clades of the said illness — the West African or Congo Basin clade.
In the World Health Organization (WHO) data, there is 360 case fatality rates in 10,000 cases of the West African clade of monkeypox while the fatality rate of the Congo Basic Clade is at 1,000.
In the shared data of the DOH, there are 10 fatalities for monkeypox while there are more than 20,000 reported cases worldwide.
The Private Hospital Association of the Philippines (PHAPI) does not recommend home isolation of the suspected and confirmed cases.
Dr. Jose Rene de Grano, PHAPI President, shared in an interview with DZRH that suspected cases of monkeypox should be isolated in a facility or a hospital to avoid the mass transmission of the disease until it is proven not to be monkeypox.
