The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, Dec. 26, reported that it logged five cases of traumatic amputations from fireworks, resulting in lost or mangled fingers and hands.
Three of the traumatic amputation cases were minors and the rest were adults.
The health agency said illegal use of fireworks, such as Boga, Plapla, Five-star, and Goodbye Philippines was to “blame” for the cases.
“Say goodbye to fireworks use at home instead of saying goodbye to your fingers,” DOH said in its statement.
DOH's Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance (FWRI) recorded 24 new cases of fireworks-related injuries that happened at home or on nearby streets.
Twenty-one had active involvement with 16 of the fireworks used flagged as illegal.
The health agency said fireworks-related injuries in Metro Manila totaled 20, six in Region III and five in Region XII.
