The Department of Health (DOH) reported 16 new fireworks-related injuries on Monday, Dec. 25, with the total logged injuries reaching 28.
According to the DOH's Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance (FWRI) Report, most of the cases were from the male sex aged six to 35 years old except for one woman.
Forty-nine percent of the injuries occurred in their respective houses with 31 percent of them happening in Metro Manila. Ten of those affected did not use any fireworks.
The health department that the Republic Act 7184 and Executive Order 28, s. 2017 controls the use of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.
It added that it was not safe to use any fireworks, legal or illegal, inside houses or nearby streets since many cases of fireworks-related injuries did not use them.
“May legal na batayan at moral na tungkulin para sa mga lokal na pinuno at pulisya upang matiyak ang kaligtasan mula sa mga paputok,” the health agency’s statement read.
