The Department of Energy (DOE) has raised the entire energy sector to high alert status to ensure the uninterrupted and reliable supply of electricity ahead of the 2025 National and Local Elections.
Starting May 11, 2025, the Energy Task Force Election (ETFE), led by Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella, launched round-the-clock operations aimed at preventing any power disruptions before, during, and after the elections.
The ETFE is composed of government energy agencies, private power distributors, generation companies, and other stakeholders. Among its key initiatives is the swift response to any power-related emergencies to maintain stable electricity service nationwide.
As part of its preparations, the DOE activated command centers from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), National Electrification Administration (NEA), Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), and the DOE’s Energy Sector Emergency Operations Center (ESEOC). These centers are operating 24/7 until May 13 to monitor and address potential issues in the power supply.
"All hands are on deck. The entire energy sector is fully mobilized and working in full coordination to ensure an unimpeded and reliable power supply, along with adequate fuel availability, for tomorrow’s National and Local Elections," said Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla.
The DOE also urged the public to immediately report any power-related issues to avoid prolonged outages and help maintain the country’s energy system stability.
Overall, the DOE and the energy sector reaffirmed their full support for a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
