President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos has tapped Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Carlito Galvez Jr. as the new Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary.

In a statement, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) officer-in-charge (OIC) Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said the President offered the position to Galvez following the resignation of Jose Faustino Jr. as DND OIC.

"It is with deep regret that the President has accepted the resignation of DND OIC Sr. Usec. Jose Faustino Jr. The President has offered the position of DND Secretary to the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. and he has accepted," Garafil said.

As of writing, the reason behind the resignation of Faustino has yet been disclosed.

Galvez previously served as the country's Vaccine Czar and National Action Plan vs COVID-19 chief implementer during the Duterte Administration.

He has also been appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
