The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will provide cash assistance and other necessary aid to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Japan who were affected by the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Ishikawa Prefecture on New Year’s Day.
"The Department of Migrant Workers will provide immediate and necessary assistance to all OFWs adversely affected by the Japan quake," it said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Jan 3.

No Filipino was reported dead or hurt following the powerful quake as confirmed by Foreign Affairs Usec. Eduardo De Vega.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. said that he conveyed to the Japanese government the Philippines' readiness to extend all forms of assistance. He added that he is communicating with them "to secure the welfare” of Filipinos in Japan.
As of January 3, the international news agency Reuters reported that the death toll due to the quake rose to 55.
About 90 percent of the more than 5,000 households in Suzu, the town near the quake's epicenter, were reportedly destroyed.
