The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reassured the 35 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) bound for Kuwait of a strengthened monitoring of their rights and welfare on-site.
The DMW conducted a pre-departure briefing for the 35 OFWs heading to Kuwait after the Arab nation lifted its deployment ban. Workers were reminded of their rights and responsibilities before heading to their foreign employers.
The 35 OFWs are employed as domestic workers with prior experience working abroad. They were deployed through the Philippine and Kuwait recruitment agencies with good track records.
Last Friday, September 13, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac sent off 11 OFWs; This week, 24 OFWs are set to depart.
“The resumption of OFW deployment was a result of the agreement between the Philippine government and Kuwait, which provides measures for enhanced OFW protection such as the implementation of a system for whitelisting of recruitment agencies and the appointment of welfare desk officers to monitor, report, and assist OFWs in the whole-cycle of their labor migration,” the DMW said.
