The couple linked to the alleged flood control project anomalies appeared at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday to discuss their possible inclusion in the government’s Witness Protection Program.
According to a report by Boy Gonzales, Curlee Discaya arrived first at around 8 a.m., escorted by the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms as he remains under Senate custody after being cited in contempt. His wife, Sarah Discaya, followed at about 10 a.m.
DOJ spokesperson Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano said Justice Secretary Boying Remulla wrote to Senate President Tito Sotto to invite Curlee Discaya to the DOJ for discussions on witness protection.
Clavano added that since no case has been filed yet, the DOJ may initially discuss Curlee Discaya’s potential protection as a witness. However, this will depend on whether the couple will fully disclose the truth about their involvement.
“Posibleng mangyari ’yon na magkasalungat ang statements ng mga witnesses natin, and that again will go into the veracity and the truthfulness of their statements,” said Clavano.
“Obviously, if there are two statements that are contradictory, then one of them is lying, and we have to get to the bottom of that. That will affect their application for protection,” he added.
This development came after Senator Rodante Marcoleta called for the Discaya couple to be made state witnesses in the ongoing probe into the flood control project anomaly.
