As the 2023 barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan elections approach, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded the public of prohibited acts during the election period.

DILG - National Barangay Operations Office section chief Ellen Mahinay said on Wednesday, March 15, that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) issued Resolution No. 10899, which lists the prohibited acts for the election period.

These prohibited acts include the carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons in public places, including inside vehicles.

"Even if meron tayong license to possess or license to carry, dapat meron din tayong authorization coming from COMELEC, in writing ito, para tayo ay payaagan," Mahinay told DZRH.

The DILG official also stressed that candidates cannot have security personnel or bodyguards during the duration of the election period.

Mahinay mentioned that candidates cannot also hold fundraising activities or gambling events, as well as betting on the results of the elections on October 30.

"Doon sa mga nagpapasayaw, nagpapa-contest, mga loteriya, sabong, kasama ang vote-buying, vote-selling, they are likewise prohibited under the law," Mahinay said.

COMELEC also prohibits the alteration of the territory of an electoral precinct or the establishment of a new precinct.
