San Pedro, Laguna Mayor Art Mercado credits the recognition received by the local government unit during the 2023 SubayBAYANI Awards to the close coordination between departments, the city development council, and his office.
During the awards ceremony held in Paranaque City last November 16, the San Pedro LGU bagged the 'Top Overall Performer Award for Component City Category' Award.
The SubayBAYANI Awards honor LGU which efficiently promotes transparency and accountability in implementing programs, particularly infrastructure projects.
"Yung ating city engineering office together with our city planning ay in close coordination sa ating Office of the Mayor upang magbigay ng reports sa ongoing projects ng ating city government," Mercado said on Wednesday, November 22, during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.
Mercado also said that the city project monitoring and evaluation committee convenes every month, and checks the status of every project of the LGU.
"Nakikita nila kung ano yung status ng mga project ng ating LGU at nagbibigay sila ng comments kung ano yung dapat i-improve, kung dapat gawin pa," Mercado explained.
"Based on that, nakukuha natin yung mga report at iyan ang ating nire-report sa DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government)," he added.
The mayor also praised the impact of the Ugnayan sa San Pedro (USAP) initiative, which he said provides a voice to the public.
"Pwede silang mag-report doon kung ano ang nakikita nila na kanilang hinaing or problema whether it be sa mga proyekto ng gobyerno, o mga programa," Mercado stressed.
Mercado recommended that other local chief executives duplicate USAP to better the relationship between the government and the public.
