The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) joins other government agencies in preparing for the onset of El Niño in the Philippines.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) repeatedly warned that country could experience El Niño at the fourth quarter of 2023.
The weather-monitoring agency added that the Philippines could experience below-average rainfall until 2024.
LWUA administrator Vicente Revil said on Wednesday, August 23, that the agency already issued a executive order for water districts outside of Metro Manila to conduct an inventory of all water sources in the Philippines.
"Dito sa LWUA kasama ang lahat ng water districts, nagkaroon tayo ng issuance na kailangan prepared, may preparation tayo na ginagawa towards this El Niño situation," Revil said during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.
He said that LWUA also works to improve the water management system outside of the National Capital Region, in order to reduce non-revenue water.
"Kung may mga tulo diyan sa ating mga bahay, dapat sinasara iyan. Sa ating mga tubo dapat hinahanap yung mga leakage. at wala dapat nagsasayang ng tubig," Revil shared.
The LWUA administrator advised the public to prepare for the possible rationing of water 'in case the worst happens in the community'.
LWUA also conducts information drives to ensure that the public will be responsible in using, and conserve water when the Philippines experiences El Niño.
