The local government unit of Marawi City helps victims of the 2017 siege to receive compensation for their destroyed properties.

Marawi City mayor Majul Gandamra mentioned on Wednesday, that the LGU issues the documents needed for the victims to receive their benefits under Republic Act 11696, also known as the Marawi Siege Victims Compensation Act.

"For instance, yung proof of ownership na nasa city assessor. Marami tayong pino-process na tax declaration kung walang titulo," Gandamra said during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.

"Maraming light-building permit. Iyan ay kailangan din doon sa mga binigay na requirements ng compensation board. Marami tayong naitutulong sa kanila," he added,

Gandamra also shared that business owners could also seek compensation as long as they acquire the necessary documents, including a copy of their business permit.

"Pati yung mga commercial establishment, yung mga nawalang ari-arian, yung laman ng kanilang business establishments, ay babayaran din pero kailangan yung kanilang proof na sila ay may existing business before the Marawi Siege," the mayor explained.

Aside from destroyed properties, Gandamra said that relatives of those who perished during the Marawi Siege can also seek compensation.

The local chief executive said that the Marawi Compensation has received at least 4,000 applications, and expects that more will apply for compensation in the upcoming days.
