The local government unit of Pasig City involves civil-society organizations in managing the budget.
Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto shared on Wednesday, July 19, that the local government unit consults with homeowners' associations, urban poor groups, as well as tricycle operators, and drivers' associations regarding the use of funds and the programs of the city.
"Hindi namin pinapasa yung budget kung hindi dumaan, hindi lang sa presentation kung hindi makabuluhang consultation," Sotto said during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.
Sotto explained that the involvement of civil society groups allows the local government to craft better programs to address the concerns of various sectors, including persons with disabilities.
He said that the local government notices 'blind spots' due to the involvement of civil society groups.
"Hindi ako person with disability. Sino ba ang mas nakakaalam sa pangangailangan ng isang PWD kung hindi yung PWD mismo kaya bigyan natin sila ng pagkakataon na sila mismo ang mag-suggest," the mayor said.
"In a very real way, nagiging mas responsive ang pamahalaan natin sa pangangailangan ng iba't ibang sector dahil sa people's participation in governance," he added.
