Chanito Quiblat, chairperson of Brgy. Taloot, Argao, Cebu, called on his fellow local chief executives to support programs that will lead to the betterment of their respective barangays.

Quiblat stressed on Wednesday, October 18, the importance of unity to ensure the success of programs and projects in the barangay-level.

"I-empower natin ang community. Lahat ng tulong na kaya ng barangay, kahit na maliit lang kasi maliit ang budget ng barangay, ibigay natin kahit anong tulong," Quiblat said during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.

"Ang maganda ay tulong-tulong. Dapat may unity para mapaganda ang program," he added.

This year, the Galing Pook Foundation recognized the community-based integrated approach of Brgy. Taloot to address malnutrition and illiteracy among the youth.

Jasmine Gella, principal of the Taloot Integrated School, said that barangay provides financial assistance that ensures the continued success and development of the program.

Before informing the barangay of the said program, Gella said that parents provide donations, and organize feeding activities.

"Sa simula wala talagang budget iyan tapos nagkaroon na kami ng annual budget, yung mga activity tuloy-tuloy na," the principal explained.

"Dahil sa sipag ng mga nanay, mga parents, at ibang community people, kahit hindi pa sila nanay, nagtutulungan pa rin sila," she added.

Gella shared that the program succeeded in bringing down the number of non-readers, and malnourished children in the barangay to zero.
