The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recorded an increase in fire incidents connected to electric bikes or e-bikes, which became popular recently.
"Mura kasi yung electric bikes ngayon. Meron mga electric bikes na less than Php 10,000 ay nakakabili tayo," BFP Chief Director Louie Puracan explained on Wednesday, December 20, during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime.
"Mura kasing mode of transportation kaya halos lahat ng kababayan natin ay bumibili nito," he added
The BFP official warned that overcharging of devices, including e-bikes, can spark a fire, especially among low-quality products.
"Nakaka-order ka nito sa mga online platform. Maraming na-order na ganito. Sa iba nga, naka-carton lang na darating," Puracan said.
"Kapag bumili tayo ng electrical gadgets, siguraduhin natin na maganda ang quality," he stressed.
Puracan also advised the public to dial 911 when fire incidents happen.
