DILG reveals Quiboloy’s neglect of Supreme Court order; transfer of cases from Davao to Manila ordered
by Mary Antalan01 September 2024

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos revealed that the department has recently discovered that the self-proclaimed "Son of God" and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Apollo Quiboloy, has neglected a Supreme Court order.

During the DILG segment on the DZRH Breaktime program on Wednesday, Abalos read from a Supreme Court document that ordered the transfer of all pending cases involving Quiboloy from Davao to Manila.

"In case No. 24-04-29 RTC, the court found compelling reasons to justify the transfer of venue for this criminal case. The case involves public interest, with the accused being a well-known religious leader influential in the area. This situation could lead to local biases and a strong possibility that witnesses might not freely testify due to fear and the influence of the accused. The court deemed it prudent and judicious to transfer the cases to Quezon City," Abalos read from the order dated May 28, 2024.

"Itong ang aming natuklasan na noon palang Mayo ay may isang kaso sa Davao na kasama rin si Quiboloy na kasama si Secretary Remulla. Secretary Remulla sought change of venue from Davao to Manila at ito ay kinatigan ng Korte Suprema," he emphasized.

According to Abalos, Quiboloy could be cited for contempt for violating the court's order.

As a result, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has filed a manifestation arguing that the case violated due process and will also file a petition to nullify the temporary protective order due to lack of jurisdiction.

When asked if Davao Judge Mario Duavez could face legal action for issuing temporary protection order (TPO) for stopping the PNP from exercising any act that would threaten the life, liberty or security of the officials and members of KOJC, Abalos said that the decision will ultimately rest with the highest court of the state.

Quiboloy, who is facing a warrant of arrest for multiple criminal charges involving his religious group, is still believed to be hiding in the KOJC compound in Davao City.
