“Ngayong araw na ito ay aming pong ihaharap sa publiko, si Pastor Apollo Quiboloy at ang iba pa niyang mga kasama na nasa kustodiya na po ngayon ng Philippine National Police,” Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos said before presenting the group to the media.
The detainees were seen wearing orange shirts and had their faces covered.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil reiterated that, despite the pressure, their team remains committed to their mission.
"No one is above the law. Ito po ang pinapakita natin na kahit na gaano kahirap ‘yung pressure din, tuloy-tuloy po kami," Marbil said.
"We’re so happy po na marami pong tumulong sa amin," he added.
PNP Region 11 Director BGen. Nicolas Torre III expressed his gratitude to the PNP, the DILG, and the President for the trust and support extended to their office.
He then explained that Quiboloy's surrender was merely a formality, as they were already cornered by the authorities at their location.
“Yung pagsuko, formality na lang ‘yon because at the end of the day whether he likes it or not, the end result will ultimately be the same,” Torre said.
“So maybe he just chose the path na feeling niya ay mas magaan para sa kanya and on our part naman, mas gusto naman natin na wala ng masaktan pang additional," he added.
Quiboloy and his cohorts are currently detained at the PNP Custodial Facility. His surrender marks the conclusion of a weeks-long manhunt operation conducted at the KOJC compound to serve an arrest warrant against him.
