The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Malabon Local Government Unit (LGU) led the 'Kalinga At Inisyatiba Para Sa Malinis Na Bayan' (KALINISAN) initiative in the municipality on Friday, which aims to address the recent flooding that occurred following the wrath of Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
The KALINISAN initiative is still part of the Bagong Pilipinas Program of the Marcos Administration.
Secretary Abalos encouraged attendees to unite and participate in the program to achieve its goal of creating a clean and safe community through the essence of 'bayanihan'.
Abalos noted that the trash piled up in Malabon came from other areas. In response, the DILG proposed that those who improperly dispose of garbage should be apprehended or mandated to perform community service if caught.
Different agencies were involved in the cleanup effort, including the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), as well as local barangays and community members.
The initiative included tasks such as clearing debris, dredging drains, removing trees, hauling waste, and addressing mosquito breeding grounds.
