The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) remained firm that the deadline for the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card will no longer be extended.
The last day to register one’s SIM Card is set for Tuesday, July 25.
“May extension ba ang SIM Card registration? Wala po. Walang extension. July 25 is a hard deadline,” DICT Secretary Ivan Uy told reporters in an interview last July 21.
He urged those “hard-headed” mobile users to register their SIMs, noting that unregistered SIMs will be automatically deactivated by 12:01 AM on July 26.
Uy then warned the public against scammers who are now transferring to other platforms.
“I need to warn the public to be vigilant dahil ang scammers ay walang pinipiling resources, lahat po ay ginagamit nila para makapang loko,” he stressed.
Data from the National Telecommunication Office (NTC) as of July 19 showed there are 104,076,843 million subscribers who have officially registered their SIM Cards nationwide.
The 104 million translates to 61.94 percent of the total number of Filipino subscribers of 168,016,400.
DITO Telecommunity recorded 7.4 million SIM Cards registered; Globe Telecom with 47.47 million SIM Cards; and SMART with 49.2 million SIM Cards.
