The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will not extend the deadline for SIM card registration scheduled on April 26.
DICT Undersecretary and Spokesperson Anna Mae Y. Lamentillo reminded the public to take the deadline seriously.
"As the deadline for SIM registration draws near, it is imperative that all unregistered citizens take this matter seriously and register their SIMs without delay. Take the necessary steps to register your SIMs today and avoid the inconvenience and deactivation that comes with non-compliance," she said.
In the latest statistics released by major Public Telecommunication Entities (PTEs) – DITO Telecommunity Corp., Globe Telecom Inc., and Smart Communications Inc. – as of March 30, 2023, the number of registered SIMs is as follows:
- DITO – 4,170,923
- Globe – 22,683,410
- SMART – 27,846,566.
It has a total number of 54,700,899 registered SIMs, representing 32.37% of the 168,977,773 million subscribers nationwide.
Failure to meet the SIM registration deadline will result in deactivation, which will disable the use of phone calls, text messaging, and mobile data services. This is part of the government's efforts to improve national security and prevent fraudulent activities such as scams and identity theft.
The DICT also called on the public to register only through the official links of PTEs to avoid fraudulent activities.
The department also reminds the public to remain vigilant against entities that may attempt to defraud them by offering SIM registration assistance. They may pose as authorized government representatives or PTEs but have malicious intent to steal personal information and commit fraud.
