The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday reminded all mobile users that registration for Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) is until April 26, 2023.
In a statement, the DICT said the deadline is stipulated in the provisions of Republic Act No. 11934, or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act.
The department cited section of 5 of the signed law which stated that "all existing SIM subscribers/end-users shall register within one hundred eighty (180) days from the effectivity of the Act."
"While the DICT may extend the registration for another 120 days, the aim is to finish the registration within the original deadline," it said.
The DICT also disclosed that it is still finalizing the guidelines for the SIM registration of users situated in remote areas.
Data from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) as of January 15, more than 20 million subscribers have fully registered their SIM cards.
According to the NTC, there are about 170 million SIM card users nationwide.
