Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy said on Friday that there will be no extension for the SIM registration period, which will end on July 25.
Uy made the announcement during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Connectivity Index Rating in the Philippines, stating that most of the active SIM users have already registered.
Based on the DICT data, out of more than 160 million SIMs in the country, 104 million have already been registered.
Despite the number of SIM card users in the country, the DICT did not expect all of them to be registered since some of these SIM cards are no longer in use.
Unregistered SIM cards will be disconnected automatically after the deadline.
The DICT stated that users of deactivated SIM cards have a 5-day grace period to register their mobile numbers. Uy cautioned that text fraud could increase in the final four days before the deadline.
Scammers, he claims, are increasingly turning to other sites. Globe registered 47,587,138 SIMs out of the total 104,334,729 registered SIMs as of July 20, Smart registered 49,324,526, and DITO registered 7,423,065.
