The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) welcomed the recent phone call between Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and U.S. President-elect Donald J. Trump on November 19.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the DFA highlighted the significance of the conversation in further strengthening the longstanding alliance between the Philippines and the United States.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the congratulatory call emphasized the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, focusing on mutual interests such as security, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
The DFA also commended the role of Filipino Americans in U.S. society, underscoring their contributions, particularly during the recent peaceful and successful conduct of U.S. elections.
"The United States remains an important ally, partner, and friend to the Philippines," the DFA stated.
"We look forward to working with the Trump Administration in ensuring that PH-U.S. relations remain robust and benefit from continuing positive momentum in security and defense cooperation, economic partnership, as well as broader and deeper engagement across other areas of mutual interest," it added.
As one of the Philippines’ key allies, the United States has consistently played a vital role in areas such as regional security, trade, and cultural exchange. The DFA reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing this relationship for the benefit of both nations.
