MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) renewed its call on Monday for the Filipino public to heed the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia’s warning against “deceptive overseas job opportunities” being offered on social media.
The DFA reiterated its advisory after it has confirmed that 10 more Filipinos from Oddar Meanchey Province in Cambodia were safely repatriated today (21 April 2025), with the assistance of Cambodian law enforcement authorities and the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh.
According to the DFA, the repatriated Filipinos were met at the airport by representatives from government agencies, including the DFA, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).
In addition to other identified needs, the DFA said that the Philippine Embassy distributed care packages and paid for the repatriation flight using the DFA’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Fund.
A day before the flight, the 10 Filipinos stayed at the Immigration headquarters in Phnom Penh, after a nine-hour journey from Oddar Meanchey.
The ATN team delivered hot meals and a fresh batch of care packages while in Phnom Penh, awaiting their flight to Manila.
“This latest series of repatriation of Filipinos was undertaken on the back of long-standing friendly ties between the Philippines and Cambodia,” the DFA said.
“The Philippine Embassy has conveyed its profound appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the favourable attention given to the Philippine Government’s representations for the 10 Filipinos to be brought home to their families,” the DFA added.
Embassy Advisory No. 09-2025
The entire Philippine Foreign Service renews its call for the Filipino public to heed the Embassy’s Advisory No. 09-2025, https://phnompenhpe.dfa.gov.ph/advisories/1354-advisory-on-dubious-overseas-job-opportunities-as-csr-or-chat-support on deceptive overseas job opportunities peddled on social media, which could bring miserable, even harmful outcomes in some cases, the DFA mentioned.
According to the advisory posted on the embassy’s official Facebook account, it expressed its concern regarding the “proliferation of social media ads, including on Facebook and Telegram, for job opportunities as Customer Service Representatives or Chat Support Representatives overseas.
“In many cases, these supposed CSR jobs involve victimizing unsuspecting individuals through love scams or fake investment schemes,” the Advisory stated.
The embassy reminded the Filipino public to comply with Philippine government requirements and procedures, including that of the DMW, to help ensure the safety and protection of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
In the same advisory, the embassy also requested concerned citizens “to help in the widest dissemination of this advisory through friends and relatives” and to actively take part in fostering the welfare and safety of every overseas Filipino.
“While always ready to extend prompt Assistance-to-Nationals service, the Philippine Foreign Service urges prudence and discernment among Filipino online job seekers,” the DFA reiterated.
“Tumulong po tayong pigilan mauwi sa kapahamakan ang ating kapwa Pilipino,” the DFA added.
(“Let's help prevent our fellow Filipinos from ending up in danger,” the DFA added).
