The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is preparing to repatriate the remains of Marvil Facturan, a Filipina migrant who was allegedly murdered by her husband in Slovenia.
DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega announced on Sunday that the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, which has jurisdiction over Slovenia, is overseeing the repatriation process with funding provided by the DFA. The embassy is coordinating closely with the victim's family, particularly her mother, and has confirmed that the autopsy on Facturan has been completed.
"The Philippine Government condemns this tragic incident and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the victim’s bereaved family in the Philippines," said the Foreign Affairs Undersecretary.
He added that the embassy is working with Slovenian authorities not only to ensure the repatriation of the victim’s remains but also to pursue justice for her death.
Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas noted that the Slovenian government has been highly cooperative in the investigation. The Philippine Honorary Consul in Bratislava has also played a significant role in gathering information and facilitating coordination.
According to a statement from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, Facturan was reportedly killed by her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, on December 29 during a vacation in Bled, Slovenia.
The Commission expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and reiterated the call for justice.
"As we offer our thoughts and prayers with Marvil’s family, we also stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence and seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived," the statement read.
No further details about the ongoing investigation have been disclosed.
