MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed “deep regret” on the recent bombing attack on the residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan.

This is after the UAE government confirmed the incident last Monday and calling it as a “heinous attack.”

The UAE’s foreign ministry in a statement said that the attack was made by a Sudanese military aircraft, which caused extensive damage the building.

This was denied by the Sudanese army, saying such “shameful and cowardly acts” are being carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), reports stated.

April of last year when fighting erupted between the Sudanese army and the RSF in relation to transitioning to a “free elections”.

In a statement, the UAE government stressed the “importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences, in accordance with the treaties and customs that regulate diplomatic relations.”

This was echoed by the DFA as it calls for “respect for the safety and safeguarding of diplomatic premises in accordance with relevant Vienna Conventions."
