MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that it has cancelled the passport of former Ako Bikol Partylist Representative Elizaldy "Zaldy" Co, following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
In a statement by DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, she confirmed that the lawmaker's passport has undergone the cancellation process and was done by the department at 5:00pm on Wednesday.
"According to the resolution of the Sandiganbayan today, the 10th of December 2025, and the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Department of Foreign Affairs has cancelled the passport of former Ako Bikol Partylist Representative Elizaldy Salcedo Co," Lazaro said.
"This cancellation process was done by the Department today, the 10th of December 2025, at 5:00 PM this afternoon. Thank you very much," she added.
Earlier today, President Marcos Jr. announced via recorded message posted on his social media accounts the cancellation of Co's passport.
Marcos also said that he has instructed the DFA and Philippine National Police to coordinate with embassies abroad and other foreign governments to help locate the former congressman.
Co left the Philippines in July to seek "medical treatment" in the United States and has no plans of returning due to "threats" against his life, according to his legal counsel.
By December this year, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) believes Co is hiding in Europe, possibly in Portugal and is reportedly using a Portugese passport.
In a press briefing in Malacanang, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla appealed to the public to report any sighting of Co.
Before that, Remulla disclosed that Co was also in Japan in November, while Bureau of Immigration reports showed that he has departed for Singapore on August 6.
While out of the country, Co released a series of videos involving President Marcos, Cong. Sandro Marcos, First Lady Lisa Marcos, and former Speaker of the House of Representative Cong. Martin Romualdez, in the flood control scandal.
Malacañang has repeatedly denied Co’s accusation.
Meanwhile, Co is facing charges of malversation, graft and falsification of documents.
