MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that it has yet to receive a court order to cancel the passport of former AKO Bicol Partylist Rep. Elizalde "Zaldy" Co.
In a statement to media, the DFA said that it can cancel Philippine passports issued to Filipino citizens "upon receipt of a court order issued by a competent Philippine court, instructing the DFA to cancel a Philippine passport."
This is pursuant to Sections 4 and 10 of RA 11983 or the New Philippine Passport Act, the DFA stated.
"As of this time, the Department has not received such an order," the DFA mentioned.
Earlier, President Ferdinance Marcos, Jr. confirmed that arrest warrants have been issued against Co and 17 others, in connection with the controversial ghost flood control projects.
The 17 others were reported to be from the Department of Public Works and Highways and Sunwest Corp.
Currently, the former lawmaker is not in the country and will not be returning anytime soon due to threats to his life, according to his legal counsel.
