The Department of Education (DepEd) will not suspend classes amid the one-week long transport strike from March 6 to 12, its spokesperson Michael Poa said on Friday.

“On the part of DepEd, there will be no suspension of classes po,” he said in a statement.

Poa said learners who will not attend the in-person can take Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM) instead.

Meanwhile, several schools and local government units (LGU) have already announced suspension of classes to give way for the week-long strike.

On Thursday, transport group MANIBELA said it will still pushed through the one-week "tigil pasada," or strike of traditional jeepneys and UV Express nationwide even after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) extended the deadline for jeepney operators to comply with the public utility vehicle franchise consolidation.

At least 40,000 traditional jeepneys and the UV Express in the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to join the strike.
