Eligible employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) will receive a bonus of up to P3,000 to commemorate the agency's 125th anniversary.
According to DepEd Order No. 11 Series of 2023, teaching and non-teaching professionals who have served in office for at least one year are eligible for the anniversary bonus.
Full-time, part-time, permanent, coterminous, provisional, temporary, casual, and contractual employees are also included.
However, the government stressed that employees who went AWOL or were no longer on duty on June 23 are not eligible for the payment.
Teachers have been urging Congress to certify compensation hike legislation as urgent.
Earlier this year, Alliance of Concerned Instructors chairperson Vladimer Quetua stated that public school instructors (Teacher I, II, and III) will only receive a net take-home pay of $23,000 to P27,000 in 2023, a long cry from the government-reported P33,000 family living wage.
According to the Department of Budget and Management Staffing Summary for 2020, 76%, or 1,085,772 employees covered by Salary Standardization Law V (SSL V), were paid unlivable wages in the country.
He stated that 92% are public school instructors.
