President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the official launch of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) new artificial intelligence (AI) initiative, Project AGAP.AI, at the Quezon City Science High School on Friday, January 9.

Joining the President at the event was DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, along with education officials and stakeholders.

Project AGAP.AI, short for Accelerating Governance and Adaptive Pedagogy through Artificial Intelligence, aims to integrate artificial intelligence into the Philippine education system while promoting its responsible and ethical use.

According to DepEd, the program seeks to enhance awareness and understanding of AI among students, teachers, school personnel, and parents.

It also aims to strengthen AI literacy and encourage support from various stakeholders as the education sector adapts to emerging technologies.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the ASEAN Foundation. DepEd officials said that the program is envisioned to be rolled out nationwide, with AI integration gradually incorporated into teaching, learning, and school governance processes.

The launching ceremony, held at around 9 a.m. at Quezon City Science High School, marked the government’s latest effort to modernize education and prepare learners and educators for the increasing role of technology in classrooms across the country.
