The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday condemned the shooting attack against a public school principal in front of Sto. Tomas North Elementary School in the Municipality of Jaen in Nueva Ecija.
"We denounce any acts of injustice towards our personnel, learners, and stakeholders," it said in a statement.
The education department said it is now coordinating with concerned field offices and local police personnel to catch the perpetrators in the brutal incident.
"We maintain and advocate that our schools and communities remain as zones of peace for every Filipino," DepEd said.
On Tuesday morning, a riding in tandem shot the public school principal identified as Reden Daquiz, 39 years old, while he was in his SUV car entering the school gate.
He sustained seven seven bullet wounds and was rushed to the hospital.
Jaen Mayor Sylvia Austria also condemned the shooting incident.
“Mariin kong kinokondena ang pamamaril sa aming principal na si Reden Daquiz at nanawagan ako sa mga kapulisan ng maaga at madaliang pagresolba sa kasong ito,” she said in a brief statement.
As of this writing, authorities have yet to identify the suspects.
