The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) stated on Tuesday that global demand for Filipino nurses was "actually good news" and that the country was taking steps to avoid a local scarcity of healthcare experts.
In a Palace briefing, CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera III said that overseas demand for Filipino nurses is good news as it means that the country is producing world-class nurses, saying that there is no need to worry if the professionals are acceptable abroad.
De Vera added that it was a good sign to manage the educational system by producing more nurses.
According to De Vera, the government is aiming to raise the pay of nurses.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa has pledged to pay nurses a competitive wage in order to entice them to stay in the Philippines.
A group of private hospitals stated that they entered the COVID-19 epidemic with a 40% nurse shortage.
