With the arrest of one of the alleged masterminds, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated on Friday that the case involving the murder of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo is now "99 percent solved."
"The Degamo case is 99 percent solved… I can tell you 100 percent but we’re just saying 99 percent," he said.
Even though the chief of justice withheld the suspect's identity, he revealed that he had been "on the run" before being apprehended by National Bureau of Investigation agents.
The suspect was caught fleeing Negros Oriental and is now under the custody of the NBI.
"The NBI was able to catch a main player. We have not discussed it yet but practically I would say in my own reading of the situation, one of the masterminds was caught today," he added.
Remulla revealed that they have been tracking the suspect from day one of the investigations and that he is the person the justice department is looking for.
The authorities are still pursuing at least three more masterminds in addition to this suspect, he added.
The alleged mastermind is now being questioned by the NBI.
Remulla assured that further information would be made available to the public on Monday, April 3.
When asked where Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. fits in the story based on the evidence and statements presented, the justice secretary responded, "he fits in right there, in the middle of everything."
