President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Tuesday declared Dec. 26, 2023, as a special non-working holiday to allow Filipinos to spend more time with their loved ones and families after Christmas.
Under Proclamation No. 425, Marcos said making Dec. 26 as special holiday would give "people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones."
“A longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a more better society," he said, adding that this will also "promote domestic tourism."
The labor department was directed to release "the appropriate circular to implement" the proclamation for workers in the private sector.
The proclamation order was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin for the President.
