A missing prisoner was found decapitated inside a septic tank at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) on Wednesday, July 26, according to Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
Remulla said the body belongs to a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) who has been missing since July 15, 2023.
“‘Yung nawawalang PDL nahanap na. Patay, decapitated. That’s the status of the missing PDL. And there will be other revelations in the next few days,” he told reporters in an ambush interview.
Remulla stated that the incident is linked to the alleged killings within the NBP prior to the tenure of Bureau of Corrections (BuCOr) Director General Gregorio Catapang.
The DOJ Chief said that they had not yet determined the perpetrators of the incident.
“Sketchy pa lahat. Everything is still in the exploratory stage and we’re still trying to find out. Trying to get the bottom of everything,” Remulla said.
He said he is expecting a comprehensive report from Catapang at the end of the day.
“They’re investigating. Iniimbestigahan namin lahat ng pangyayari," the Justice Secretary said.
"I’m expecting a comprehensive report at the end of the day from Director General Catapang,” he added.
