The number of individuals who perished in the landslide in Brgy. Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Davao de Oro rose to 11.

In an official update posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, January 20, the Municipality of Monkayo confirmed 11 deaths in the Brgy. Mt. Diwata after rescuers successfully retrieved the remains of Rommel Gumatin.

Rommel was the 45-year-old father of the five children who also died in the landslide. His wife also perished in the tragic incident.

“Eksakto ala- una sa hapon nakita ang patayng lawas ni Mr. Rommel Gumatin karon adlawa, Enero 20. Si Mr. Gumatin mao ang pinakaulahi nga nakita sa tanang biktima sa Mt. Diwata landslide,” the Monkayo Municipality said.

(At exactly 1 pm, the body of Mr. Rommel Gumatin was found today, January 20. Mr. Gumatin was the last seen by all the victims of the Mt. Diwata landslide.)

The 10 other victims were earlier identified by the Monkaya Municipality as:

1. Catherine Gumatin - 27 years old

2. Hannah Gumatin – 9 years old

3. Dysna Gumatin – 3 years old

4. Arjay Gumatin – 1 year old

5. Cristille Gumatin – 10 years old

6. Ailee Gumatin – 8 years old

7. Marjomie Nenaria – 33 years old

8. Agnes Bitoon – 44 years old

9. Elvera Saldua – 35 years old

10. Ritchel Reboldad – 35 years old

Meanwhile, one individual died in Brgy. Tandik, Prk. Bagong Silang as confirmed by Marasugan Municipal Mayor Lito Cabalquinto.

In an official Facebook post on Friday, January 19, Cabalquinto identified him as Kayle Dacer Muñoz, a 23-year-old miner from Brgy. Tandik, Davao de Oro.

Authorities reportedly retrieved Muñoz’s remains after 18 hours.

“Niabot sa 18Hrs ang pag recover sa biktima kay mo abot sa 8-10Ft ang katas'on sa yuta nga natabon sa maong biktima ug mo agi pa usab ta ug 8 ka bardown bag o maka abot sailang purok. Gidal'han nato ug equipo aron mapadali ang pag rescue niini,” the Marasugan Municipal Mayor said.

(It took 18 [hours] to recover the victim because it reaches 8-10 [feet] of the land that the victim covered and we will go through 8 more bardowns to reach their area. We brought in equipment to speed up its rescue.)

Cabalquinto extended his condolences to the landslide victim’s family.
