The total number of individuals who died amid the heavy rains and flooding in Visayas and Mindanao during Christmas has soared to 51, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday, Jan. 2.
In its 6 am situational report, the NDRRMC said 13 individuals are confirmed dead while 38 are still being validated.
Most of the reported fatalities come from Northern Mindanao with 25 deaths, the Bicol region followed with 9 deaths, and Eastern Visayas with 5 deaths.
Nineteen individuals are still missing while 16 others were injured, the NDRRMC said.
The affected population has climbed to 149,957 families or 595,693 individuals from Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM).
Of these, 2,811 families, or 8,666 individuals remain inside 78 evacuation centers while 11,003 families or 41,343 persons are staying with relatives or friends.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC also reported that the estimated worth of agriculture damage due to the Christmas rains and floods was pegged at Php 243,029,507.42. The reported production loss in volume is 38,309.4175 metric tons.
The number of damaged infrastructure is now 99, amounting to Php 1,137,605,000.
