The number of fatalities from the widespread rain caused by combined low-pressure area, monsoon, and shear line since January 2 rose to 38 on Tuesday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its situation briefing, the NDRRMC said that 12 of these were recorded in the Zamboanga Peninsula, eight each in Bicol Region and Northern Mindanao, and seven in Eastern Visayas.
MIMAROPA, Davao Region, and SOCCSKSARGEN registered one death each, the NDRRMC added.
Meanwhile, the agency said it already validated 19 of the total death cases and is still verifying the rest.
A total of 12 people were also injured from the inclement weather since the beginning of the year while five individuals remain missing to this day following continuous rain and floods.
A total of 1,780 houses were reported damaged — 1,232 partially and 548 totally.
Damage to agriculture worth P751,967,912 and to infrastructure worth P280,297,224 were reported due to the impact of the bad weather.
A state of calamity was declared in 84 cities and municipalities.
