Detained former senator Leila de Lima on Thursday said she welcome the apologies of former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam for the previous drug allegations she threw against her.
"I am glad that she now regrets her actions & for that I accept her apology," she said in a statement posted on her Twitter account.
"We all have a chance at redemption. Hindi likas sa tao ang kasamaan," de Lima added.
Cam, who was acquitted of murder and got released from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center, expressed remorse for her past actions in a press conference on Wednesday.
The PCSO official admitted that she was "used as a tool for imprisonment" of the former senator back in 2016.
"As I have said, I have long forgiven & left to God those who were used or allowed themselves to be used to spread lies against me," de Lima said.
She stressed that no matter how long it takes, "truth and Justice will always prevail."
"Salamat, Sandra," the former Senator said.
Apart from Cam, former corrections officer-in-charge Rafael Ragos also apologized to de Lima and recanted his allegations against her.
Three other witnesses also retracted their previous statements against de Lima including self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, Ronnie Dayan, and Marcelo Ardecoro.
