The Department of Health (DOH) encourages Filipinos to maintain healthy eating habits, especially with the numerous gatherings during the upcoming holiday season.
In an exclusive interview with DZRH's Damdaming Bayan on Tuesday, DOH Spokesperson Asec. Albert Domingo reminded individuals that Christmas celebrations should be safe.
Furthermore, to celebrate the yuletide season in a healthy way, Domingo emphasized three letters to remember: T-E-D.
"T-Tamang pagkain. Ibig sabihin ‘yung mga pagkaing maalat, matamis, at mataba – medyo iwas-iwasan muna natin ‘yon o bawas-bawasan," Domingo said.
"E naman since marami nga tayong kinakain sa panahon na ito, huwag natin kakalimutan [na] galaw-galaw para hindi maagang pumanaw, ehersisyo ang ibig sabihin ng letter E. Finally, ‘yung letter D ang sinasabi nating disiplina sa katawan," he added.
He further noted that "disiplina sa katawan" includes actions such as, for example, not drinking alcohol when driving to avoid unfortunate situations like accidents.
Domingo clarified that while eating is not prohibited, it is important to consume everything in moderation.
He gave the example of lechon, which is undeniably delicious, but emphasized that it should not be eaten every day.
"Unahin nating kainin ang mga gulay sa handaan," said Domingo.
According to the DOH official, eating fruits and vegetables is beneficial for the body because they are high in fiber, which helps create a feeling of fullness even without consuming fatty foods.
Another tip he shared is that instead of placing lechon directly on the plate, it's better to put it on a smaller dish and share it with others at the table.
