The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured on Thursday that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the religious leader and founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), will not receive any special treatment following his transfer to the Pasig City Jail.
In an exclusive interview on DZRH's Damdaming Bayan, BJMP Spokesperson JSupt. Jayrex Bustinera shared that BJMP Chief JDir. Ruel Rivera reiterated the directive to ensure equal treatment for all Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), stressing that VIP treatment is not allowed.
"Sa ngayon po naandon siya sa holding cell o classification cell natin. Lahat po ng bagong dala galing Pasig Police Station naandon din po," Bustinera said.
"Nasa less than 10 sila doon lahat ng bagong dating. Pero ang ordinary cell po kasi doon is nasa 30 ang laman ng isang selda," he added.
He further stated that due to the current situation, there is no longer any available space for newly arrived PDLs, and they will be assigned to whichever cell has space upon their arrival.
As of now, there are 1,453 individuals detained at the Pasig City Jail, making it one of the most crowded detention centers in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The facility operates at a congestion rate of 481%, which is five times over its ideal capacity.
Furthermore, if the ideal capacity for a 20-square-meter cell were to be followed, only five individuals should be accommodated. However, this standard is not being met due to overcrowding.
"Mayroon po doon 3-level din po na higaan o triple-deck na higaan na nakapa-ikot sa selda. Tabi-tabi po sila doon at mayroon din pong natutulog sa gitna na nagbabanig," Bustinera described the cell where Quiboloy will probably stay.
He also mentioned that each cell is equipped with an electric fan to ensure proper ventilation.
In terms of food, he mentioned that inmates are allowed to receive cooked meals, but only from their authorized visitors.
"Yung delivery po hindi po allowed ng BJMP. Kailangan po dala ng authorized na dalaw," said Bustinera.
On November 27, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy was moved to the Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory Facility following an extended medical furlough at the Philippine Heart Center.
Currently, Quiboloy is still in quarantine while his medical condition is being thoroughly checked.
The self-proclaimed annointed son of God is facing multiple charges, including qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse.
