Former COMELEC Commissioner Atty. Gregorio Larrazabal reported that Filipino voters in the United States are split in their votes between U.S. Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

"Sa mga nakausap ko, halos lahat [ay] Harris [ang boto ng mga Pinoy sa US elections]," Larrazabal said in an exclusive interview with DZRH's Damdaming Bayan on Tuesday.

"It's so divided. Medyo solid talaga ‘yung conviction nila for their particular Presidential candidate," he added.

Larrazabal further stated that he spoke with some Filipinos in California, and found that some were voting for the Republican candidate, while others were supporting the Democrat.

He pointed out that for some voters, it’s not about liking the candidate, but rather whether their policies align with the voter's views and priorities.

It is clear, he said, that former President Trump's base remains solid, accounting for 46% of the electorate.

"Elections is not about data. It's about how you feel. It's about emotions. For example, ‘yung mga botante sa tingin nila maganda ‘yung buhay nila kay Trump, no matter what you tell them, they will vote according to how they feel," said Larrazabal.

Meanwhile, the advantage of Kamala Harris, he said, is that she represents change. Many people are still unfamiliar with her, so they are giving her the benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand, Trump's advantage might be that he has been visible and has already gained nine years of experience in campaigning.

Larrazabal emphasized that what’s important is a peaceful transfer of power, regardless of the outcome. He stressed that if the opponent wins, it should be accepted and supported.

"Kasi importante ‘yon magkaisa ‘yung US kasi sobrang divided ngayon," he added.

Moreover, he added that the relationship between the US and the Philippines must continue, no matter who wins the election.
